Sell Back Gift Cards
Looking to sell back gift cards that you have many are not using? The variety of services that are available is so big it’s easy to get confused.
Gift Card Trading Sites
CardPool – Established in 2003, CardPool is one of the largest services for buying and selling gift cards. It pays back up to 92% of the card’s value, for cards with face value between $25-$1,000. Unlike PlasticJungle, here you can only be paid by check (or an Amazon gift card).
Gift Card Rescue – Established in 2007. This site does not offer the high rates that the former 2 sites do for most gift cards, but if you are already comparing rates, you might want to include this site in your comparison.
Monster Gift Card – Established in 2007. While other gift card trading sites accept cards with values that go as high as $1,000, this one only accepts cards with value between $10 to $200. However, this is useful if you have a gift card with the remaining balance that is lower than $25, as other gift card sites don’t accept these.
Gift Card Boards
Gift Card Swapping – This site falls under both categories: “trading sites” and “bulletin boards”. You can sell the card to the site for a fixed-rate (which ranges from 50% to 75% of the gift card’s value) or list it on the side for a fixed fee of $1.99 (which you pay when the card is sold).
eBay – Not all gift cards trading sites accept all gift cards, but eBay accepts all and in some cases, the payback will be much greater when you choose to sell back gift cards. It takes a little knowledge to list an item for sale on eBay, and a more attractive listing increases the chances of getting more cash for your card.
Craigslist – While selling gift cards via Craigslist is one of the most complex alternatives (your payment is not guaranteed by any 3rd party) and you will to make a good pitch and offer an attractive discount, as well as answer questions and coordinate the sale process. Most will agree that this option is not very convenient, but it is the only one that does not require you to pay fees to 3rd parties.
